Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

PhotoPrinting.xyz is a free, browser-based tool for creating and printing ID and passport photos at home. It is operated by the owner of the domain photoprinting.xyz. Questions about this policy can be sent to support@photoprinting.xyz.

2. Photos stay on your device

All photo processing — cropping, background removal, adjustment of brightness and contrast, and PDF generation — happens entirely within your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API and WebAssembly. Your photos are never uploaded to our servers. We have no technical means of accessing, viewing, or storing the photos you use with this tool.

The AI background removal model is downloaded to your device on first use (~10 MB). It runs locally and does not transmit your photos anywhere.

3. Google sign-in and session data

Downloading PDFs, printing, using background removal, and saving sessions to the cloud requires a free Google sign-in via Firebase Authentication. When you sign in:

  • We receive your Google account email address and display name for identification purposes.
  • If you choose to save a session, the following data is stored in Firebase Firestore under your user ID: your layout settings (paper size, photo sizes, margins), and a compressed copy of your cropped photo. The photo is stored solely to allow you to resume your session on another device.
  • Saved session data is associated with your Google user ID and is not shared with third parties.
  • You can delete your saved sessions at any time from within the Sessions panel in the editor.

4. Cookies and local storage

We use browser localStorage (not cookies) to persist your editor settings between visits — paper size, margins, and whether the background removal model has been cached. No personally identifiable information is stored in localStorage.

Firebase Authentication uses cookies to maintain your sign-in session. These are strictly necessary for the sign-in feature to function. We do not use any advertising or tracking cookies.

5. Analytics

We may use aggregated, anonymised analytics (such as page view counts) to understand how the tool is used. No individual user profiles are built. No data is sold or shared with advertisers.

6. Third-party services

  • Firebase (Google)— authentication and optional session storage. Governed by Google's privacy policy.
  • Vercel— hosting and CDN. Vercel may log request metadata (IP address, user agent) for security and performance purposes. Governed by Vercel's privacy policy.

We do not embed third-party advertising, social media tracking pixels, or any other third-party scripts beyond those listed above.

7. Children

This service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, contact us at support@photoprinting.xyz and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your rights (UK & EEA users)

Under UK GDPR and the EU General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request deletion of your data.
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

9. Data retention

Saved session data is retained until you delete it or request account deletion. Sign-in account records are held for as long as you maintain a Google sign-in with this service. Vercel request logs are retained according to Vercel's standard retention policy.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated when changes are made. Continued use of the service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
